Description:

PASHOM is an Australian Fair Trade focused business, owned and operated by Fiona Chadwick and Scott Goddard.

At PASHOM, our aim is to provide our customers with a unique range of beautiful, quality handcrafted products, whilst supporting and contributing to the sustainability of small Fair Trade cottage craft industries in Nepal. is dedicated to supporting Fair Trade and ethical production, and we currently work with 3 such businesses in Nepal who make our beautiful products. In the future we hope to support many more Fair Trade businesses in Nepal and throughout the world.

Our “Grassroots” cotton bags are hand woven by a registered Fair Trade women’s co-operative in Nepal. Established in 1975, they now employ over 250 Nepalese women from a range of social and ethnic groups, many of whom are widowed, divorced, handicapped or from disadvantaged backgrounds. The project provides them with skills training and support, allowing them to become self sufficient members of society. Their hand woven products are of the finest quality, and we are very proud to be working with and representing such a wonderful organisation that assists so many women in Nepal.

Our “Grassroots” cotton kaftans are made by a family run business in Kathmandu, Nepal that employs over 500 staff full-time. Although not a registered member of the International Fair Trade organisation, they adhere to all Fair Trade practises including fair wages and bonuses, set work hours and payment for overtime, clean, safe and respectful working conditions, and holiday pay and allowances. They also naturally have a strict policy of no child labour.

Our “Design” range of felt fashion accessories and children’s toys are made exclusively for us by a wonderful women’s co-operative in Kathmandu that employs over 80 women full-time and provides them with vocational skills enabling them to support their families. They are incredibly skilled in the art of felting, which is an intricate process of lathering wool and hot soapy water together and through moisture, heat and friction a unique and beautiful product is created. The wool is imported from New Zealand and is hand-dyed in Nepal using ecologically approved dyes. We visit Nepal twice a year with our designs and work very closely with the wonderful women who make our products. As there is little local demand for felt, this co-operative and its employees rely solely upon export for their livelihoods, so we are delighted to be able to contribute to their sustainability.

Along with supporting these industries through purchasing their products and ensuring strict adherence to the International Standards of Fair Trade, has also created its own Sponsorship Program. Within this Program we pledge a percentage of our revenues towards the most disadvantaged employees of the businesses we support, to help pay for their children’s educational costs. It’s an area of our business we wish to grow over the coming years, knowing that in our own way, we are helping create a better world for the families and communities that we support.
